Gamers are no strangers to new hardware during a console’s life cycle, with every major manufacturer having released an updated model or two over the years. Indeed, the Xbox One itself has already received one such revision in its lifetime with the Xbox One S, but things are about to get a whole lot more exciting… introducing the Xbox One X!
Microsoft has finally lifted the lid on pre-orders, and with the machine launching on 7th November, you can book yours now on our website or in store with a €20/£20 deposit. For those of you that miss the console’s codename, there is also the super limited Project Scorpio Edition, but you’ll need to get your order in fast for that one! This launch only model has “Project Scorpio” inscribed on both the console and controller and includes a limited edition vertical stand. Those of us who owned the original Xbox will also appreciate the lovely packaging, which is a throwback to the iconic machine.
So the all important question is, what makes the Xbox One X so special?
The Xbox One X is the most powerful console ever created, and not by a small margin. It is 40% more powerful than any other console on the market, boasting the kind of specs usually reserved for beefy gaming PCs. Microsoft are bringing us the only console that can deliver true 4K HDR gaming, as well as 4K video streaming services and 4K Blu-Ray playback. This means we are getting the best picture quality from our video and gaming content available on any console.
If you haven’t yet got a 4K TV don’t fret, as the extra power will be evident no matter what TV you play on. The technical specifications present here are an absolute marvel, particularly considering it’s all been made to fit in the smallest Xbox ever created. Boasting an 8-core Custom AMD CPU clocked at 2.3GHz, we’re in for the smoothest possible gameplay experiences yet. The GPU is 6 Teraflops (trillion floating point operations per second… yes TRILLION), dwarfing anything available on rival consoles and allowing for the more realistic graphics than ever before. Also included is 12GB GDDR5 graphics memory with 326 GB/sec of memory bandwidth for faster load times and bigger, more expansive worlds. The system also incorporates liquid cooling for quieter, more efficient running. That’s a lot of jargon in one paragraph but it all boils down to this, Xbox One X is an absolute beast of a machine!
If you are already gaming on Xbox One or Xbox One S, the upgrade process is seamless and hassle free. Your settings and preferences can be brought forward easily and games saved on the system can be transferred over a home network. If you have your games stored on an external hard drive, it’s as easy as plugging it into your new Xbox One X! Compatibility isn’t an issue either, with all previous Xbox One games and accessories fully functional on the new console.
What good would all this extra power be if it wasn’t being put to good use? Look out for the “Xbox One X Enhanced” logo on upcoming games to see which titles take full advantage of all that potential. All games will look and play great on Xbox One X, but these special titles go that extra mile to squeeze all that extra juice from your new system. At the time of writing there are over 100 games confirmed to be enhanced by Xbox One X, with many of your favourite existing titles receiving free updates to supercharge them, begging them to be replayed in all their 4K glory. You won’t be short of storage space for those games either, as the console boasts a 1TB hard drive.
It’s going to be a good Christmas for Xbox gamers and I’d advise getting your pre-order in early. Visit your local Smyths Toys Superstore and put down a deposit of €20/£20, or visit our website
