Stock Availability

Stock Availability

We offer a stock availabilty feature on our website where you can find out if an item is currently available in your local store. By clicking on Check Store Availability and selecting your local store you can see if an item is In Stock, Low Stock or Out of Stock.

In Stock

For most in stock items you can sign up for an On Shelf Promise, where the item will be available for you to collect on the shelf until the end of the next working day.   

Out Of Stock

For most out of stock items, you can sign up for text alert, where you will receive a text when the item is back in stock.

Buy Online

A 'Buy Online' button on your item indicates that the item is available for online sale.

How do I know if an item I want is available to buy in store?

We have a stock availability online check for all items. When you click on an item you will see 'Check Store Availability & Get On Shelf Promise'. Select your local store and you will see if the item is In Stock, Low Stock or Out of Stock.

How do I know if an item I want is available to buy online?

All items that are available for online purchase are marked with a 'Buy Online' and a 'Add to Basket' button.

The item I want is out of stock, what can I do?

If an item is out of stock we have a text alert service where you can enter your number and you will receive a text alert when the item is back in stock. you can sign up for a text alert as follows:

  1. Click your local store on 'Check Store Availability'.
  2. For items that are out of stock, you will see 'Text me when in stock'.
  3. Enter your mobile number and click 'Submit'
  4. You will receive a text when the item is in stock


Please note this is only available for items we are getting back into stock or new product releases.

Can you contact me when the item I want is back in stock?

There is a text alert option for items that are out of stock. If you sign up for text alert you will receive a text message when the item is back in stock. Please see above for more information.

Can I reserve the item I want on-line and pick it up at my local store?

Yes you can sign up for On Shelf Promise where we your item will be available on the shelf for you until the end of the next working day.

How do I get my On Shelf Promise?

You can get your On Shelf Promise by following the below steps:

  1. Find your item online
  2. Click 'Check Store Availability' and 'Click Now to Receive On Shelf Promise'
  3. Enter your email address and you will receive your On Shelf Promise by email immediately.
  4. Print out your On Shelf Promise and bring print out to your local store
  5. Collect item from the shelf instore

Is the stock held specifically for me?

We will not hold stock specifically for you. The item will be available on the shelf when you visit before the end of the next working day.

Can I do get multiple on-shelf promises for the one item?

You are entitled to one on shelf promise per product. Multiple On Shelf Promise print outs for the same product does not guarantee product availablility and will be at the store managers discretion.

You need to bring your On Shelf Promise print out to the store.

My item was not on the shelf in the store even though I had my On Shelf Promise?

If your item is not on the shelf, please contact a member of store staff who will be happy to help you. In the event we cannot locate your product, you are entitle to a £7 Gift Voucher. To redeem your voucher, you must present ‘On Shelf Promise’ print out at your chosen Smyths store.

Text Alerts

If an item is out of stock we have a text alert service where you can enter your number and you will receive a text alert when the item is back in stock. You can sign up for a text alert as follows:

When do I receive the text alert?

You wil receive your text alert when the item is back in stock or on the day before a new product is released.

Are there any restrictions on signing up for text alerts?

Our text alert service is only available for items we are getting back into stock or new product releases. You may only sign up for the same product with the same mobile number once per store.

Will I be given a deadline to collect the item in the store?

Usually you will have until close of business to collect your item. Any collection deadlines will be specified in the text message you receive.

Can I sign up for a text alert to be notified when an item is available for home delivery?

This option is available on a limited selection of products and will be stated clearly on the product where available. To sign up for text alert for these items, you need to click the 'Add to Basket' button and then click "Please text me when it's in stock".

Please note, stock is not reserved or held when you sign up for text alert for home delivery. You will receive a text message notifying you that the item is now availale to buy online but stock will be on a first come first served basis.

Winter Catalogue

We release an annual Winter Catalogue, containing 300 pages of our product range and promotions. Our cataloue is free and can be sent directy to your door from mid Setember every year. Alternatively you can pick up your copy at any of our stores.
